Thinking Theologically
Theological thinking seeks not only an understanding of the nature of religion. It also seeks an understanding of the relationship of the Christian tradition to a contemporary world where social, political, and economic structures are often unjust; where secular faiths arise and challenge the self-evidentness of the Christian faith; and where scientific and technological advances pose new problems for human self-understanding.

Ursula Jean Magsayo - Assistant Director of Residence Life at Elmhurst University
"My Theology degree at Á¿×Ó×ÊÔ´ gave me many tools that has shaped my journey to where I am today. Every class challenged me to expand my self-awareness, critically think in a global sense, and reflect inwards of who I am and who I want to be within my own community. Currently, I work at a university in Residential Life, working with student leaders on campus. I am also a college life coach & aid in teaching a first-year seminar class. Theology gave me the tools to dialogue about social justice, the tools to also question structural powers of authority, and a foundation to which my vocation stands on. My Theology degree gave me the tools to not only approach difference but to also dialogue about it in a way that's not divisive but rather unify a group of people as I had done during my year of service with JVCNW which lead me to ultimately choose to pursue a job in education."

"In the ultimate depths of his being man knows nothing more surely than that his knowledge, that is, what is called knowledge in everyday parlance, is only a small island in a vast sea that has not been travelled. It is a floating island, and it might be more familiar to us than the sea, but ultimately it is borne by the sea and only because it is can we be borne by it. Hence the existentiell question for the knower is this: Which does he love more, the small island of his so-called knowledge or the sea of infinite mystery?" Karl Rahner
