International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)

We support the success of over 1,000 international students, scholars, faculty, and staff at Á¿×Ó×ÊÔ´ University Chicago.

We strive to connect our international community across all campuses of Á¿×Ó×ÊÔ´ University Chicago. We provide comprehensive immigration-related advising services and offer a variety of programming and events to actively engage international students and scholars on-campus and throughout the City of Chicago.

Important Reminders

Maintain your Status

It is your responsibility to and ensure that all documentation remains accurate and up to date. This includes making normal academic progress, keeping a valid and unexpired passport and Form I-20/DS-2019, and obtaining proper work authorization before beginning any employment. Additionally, you must report any changes in your address to ISSS and ensure your immigration documents are always current.

Carry Proof of Registration

Under the Immigration and National Act (INA), all nonimmigrants and lawful permanent residents must carry proof of registration at all times. Failure to comply can result in adverse immigration-related consequences.

Generally acceptable documents include a combination of:

  • Government-Issued Photo ID (passport, REAL ID, U.S. state-issued ID)
  • for most recent entry
  • Status-specific documentation (I-20, DS-2019, I-797)

International Travel

When travelling, always remember to have a valid passport, U.S. visa, and Form I-20 or DS-2019 on your person (not in your checked luggage). Additional evidence may be requested.
