Meet the Winners of the 2025 Sharon Walsh Essay Contest!

Please join the English Department in congratulating this year’s winners of the Sharon Walsh Essay Contest. This is an annual contest that was established in honor of Dr. Sharon Walsh, a much-valued and long-time Writing Instructor in the Writing Program and English Department here at Á¿×Ó×ÊÔ´. As a teacher Sharon maintained the highest standards, requiring that all her students do their best possible work. She was devoted to helping her students write well and spent many hours with them in individual conferences. To continue her legacy of writing pedagogy and scholarship, the essay award was generously created by friends, colleagues, and family, in memory of Dr. Walsh's intellectual contributions and dedication to her students. Each year the contest awards three top winners. This year’s winners are:
In First Place, Ryan Henson for his essay “The Dehumanizing Lens: The Negative Portrayal of Morbidly Obese People in Reality TV”
In Second Place, Fadia Gaber for her essay: “How Traditional Grading Fails to Reflect Students' True Abilities and Harms Their Potential”
In Third Place, Jayden Ikeda for his essay “Addressing Healthcare Disparities Through A Geographical Lens”
Congratulations to you all!
